Derek Lee Goodreid is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist who
moved to Oslo for love. He is known for a retro acoustic sound rooted in americana and early rock n roll, drawing from country, blues, folk and rockabilly influences. He is inspired lyrically and musically by artists such as Howlin Wolf, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Jeff Buckley and his dynamic vocal range can reach the heights of Buckley´s falsetto to the low earthy grit of a Tom Waits baritone. With his former band, Howling Light, on their debut performance at Musikkfest in 2016 they won a place to compete at Notodden Blues Festival. Unfortunately due to other commitments Howling Light was disbanded in 2017 and Derek forged on to to write new songs now with electric guitar and an upbeat bluesy rock feel, performing solo or with drummer Alexander Emanuell Rivera formerly of Annie Woodward’s band.
Derek’s debut release “Lost & Found” is a compilation of mainly acoustic folk, country and bluesy rock style songs from his first year as an artist in 2006 up until September 2016 when he recorded a couple of songs with his former band mates from Howling Light. The compilation’s highlights include the piano playing of fellow Perth songwriter Jonathan Brain on “I Will Rise”, the Americana grit of “Persona Non Grata” and “The Love” with former band mates Howling Light, Phil Perry Ohlsen provides a bluesy and soulful sounding slide guitar on the title track and the beautiful duet vocals with his wife ,Heidi Goodreid on “Hold Fast Hope” which also includes Derek’s life long friends Ben Stout on lead guitar and Kieran Kenderessy who not only provides the bass on “Hold Fast Hope” but is the sound engineer who mixed and mastered all of the album. Currently Derek and Kieran are working on a follow up album, Built To Last a collection of upbeat rockabilly, dirty blues rock and soulful country folk tunes. Derek is also self producing several of his own singles such as Feel It! and Same Old Love which have both enjoyed independent radio play in the United States, Australia, South Africa and the UK.
